STANDARD PATIENT POSITION
- The patient lies supine (on the back) on the CT examination table.
- The affected arm is extended above the head ("superman position") whenever possible to reduce beam-hardening artefacts and improve image quality.
- The wrist is placed in the neutral position (palm facing down or thumb pointing upward, depending on departmental protocol).
- The wrist is centred in the CT scanner's field of view.
- The fingers should be relaxed and slightly extended.
- Sandbags, foam pads, or straps may be used to immobilise the wrist and prevent movement.
- The patient is instructed to remain completely still during image acquisition.
ALTERNATIVE POSITION
If the patient is unable to raise the arm due to pain, injury, or limited mobility:
- The patient remains supine with the affected arm resting comfortably beside the body or across the abdomen.
- Immobilisation devices are used to minimize motion.
